It’s probably not a secret to anyone. Three years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Stage 4 meaning that the cancer cells have spread to the bones. There is no cure. We just try to control it. (Down boy!)
I have been on long-term leave for the last three years. Thanks to the support (both moral and financial) of many friends, I have survived the most critical years, the first two. The latest news are good. My condition is stable. My level of energy is low due to the hormone therapy, but what to do… My present situation prohibits me from even thinking about returning to what used to be my livelihood: organizing photo tours, workshops and giving talks.
Since I’ve always worked ‘free-lance’ as a musician, graphic designer and photographer, I have lived through many “curve balls” (as my son would say), two of which are related to the Internet. It has sunk quite a few of my photographer friends. Having always lived ¨hand to mouth¨ I therefore have no pension plan and must ¨keep on truckin¨.
For a few months now, I have been pondering, telling myself that if I cannot do what I used to do 'before', then I must find something new. Hence the idea of exploring social media and creating this website. During the last weeks, I have been exploring, developing and building this virtual platform. This I can do at my own pace in the comfort of my home. It is definitely less strenuous than running around the globe guiding groups of photographers! (But oh, how I miss it!)
The killer question is : How do you make a living from a website???
This is where you come in : if you have enjoyed a text, if you have learned something new or simply have been moved by my photos, perhaps you might be willing to contribute a bit, to help me cope with my financial stress. I don’t like asking help but I think I have painted myself in a corner… Darn!
Your contribution would help me cover medical expenses, buy supplements and vitamins, and pay for other expenses like photographic and computer equipment which become obsolete so rapidly nowadays.
2018 calendars and greeting cards are on sale online. Other products, printed in collaboration with Nord-Est Printing in Hearst will follow.
This is a new and most exciting adventure that I am embarking on, and I’m very happy to share it with you. You may share it in your personal networks if you like.
Many thanks in advance.
I would like to help
