poetry blog

“Our work is to love the world” says Mary Oliver.

To notice, to pay attention, to love—Is this not our highest calling?  Could it be as simple and as profound, as holding beauty in reverence, noticing and cherishing it.

To truly see beauty is to step fully into the still moment. Through Louise’s photography we are invited into a sacred space where the magnificence of life, often overlooked in our hurried ways comes alive.  Paired with poetic expression this blog seeks to deepen the resonance of these moments and inspire reflection.

If Dinosaurs Had Ever Dreamt

Picture
In all the stoney substance we are made of
Love itself dreams
And breaks from death and bound-up earthly fears
To live!…and Be!…
A star’s true brilliance.

As condors soar and eagles see it is for we
To sing and dance
This being of the light.

Passion

Give me fire, give me color,
Let the dance spring from its shadows.
Give me pain that stirs and wakes and then the tears
That meld with Yours
Give me fear that draws life’s courage
And above all the yearning that stirs and stirs.

Move bravely in the dimming light
Where radiance finds its own
And darkness is but shadow
Of light's most raging brilliance

After the dream

After the dream
Broken bones and faded color

Still hold the traces of your fire

Telling of a time
When tears and toil and boisterous clamor
Moved through youthful days

Here! — Now… Drawn back
To earth from which you rose
Surrendering the spirit of your moment

To time’s embracing ways.

Winter

In the distance,
Evergreens' bowed tips now joined submissively
To billowy mounds of white effervescence.
Opaque whiteness of cloud and sky and field
Broken only by the faint etchings of a former world.

Oh what art allows the canvas to shape itself so!
With its myriad textures and colourless brilliance
Forever holding the watcher with the scene
In awe and perfect unity.

Snowscape

Snow falling gently
Almost reluctantly in a still silence,
Draws me in a dance of softly shifting currents,
Holding me captive in a moment's breath, to see
The tiny waffling snowflake, somehow
Laying claim to time and space.

Emblazoned in its own frozen beauty,
Existing as arrayed offering
For the brushed white landscape that awaits.

 It surrenders

Merging in perfectly layered symmetry
To crown the scattered deadfall.
Everything— tattered remains and  wearied ways,
All— newly dressed in crystalline magnificence.

Earth and I refreshed
In the transfiguration.

Wind in tree tops
Swaying branches,
Cracking, creaking,
Teetering in the ominous roar.

Beaded beauty
Indifferent to death's ways,

You wondered at the mystery.
...Mystified.
