Jour 18 - Dans les hauteurs / Day 18 - In the Heights

Je reprends la petite route du sud-ouest de l’île, qui hier était disparue dans la brume. Quel contraste ! La route grimpe, grimpe, grimpe. Le vent souffle, souffle, souffle. Le froid mord, mord, mord ! Mais quels paysages à couper le souffle. Pour les passionnés de roches imposantes, c’est un régal ! Moi, je ne suis pas très « roche », mais l’endroit m’a tout de même impressionnée.

I take the small road in the southwest of the island again, which yesterday had disappeared into the fog. What a contrast! The road climbs, climbs, climbs. The wind blows, blows, blows. The cold bites, bites, bites! But what breathtaking landscapes. For lovers of massive rocks, it’s a delight! As for me, I’m not really into rocks, but the place still left me in awe.

Ce rocher nommé Rocha dos Bordões (Le rocher des frères) se caractérise par d'énormes colonnes de basalte atteignant jusqu'à 150 mètres de haut. 
This rock, called Rocha dos Bordões (The Rock of the Brothers), is characterized by enormous basalt columns reaching up to 150 meters high

À mesure que l'altitude augmente, la végétation se transforme. Partout, les bords de route sont intéressants.
As the altitude increases, the vegetation changes. Everywhere, the roadside is interesting.

Comme hier, les moutons sont au rendez-vous.
Just like yesterday, the sheep are here again.

Brève halte au Lagoa Funda. C’est le seul lac volcanique sur l’île où l’on peut voir des vestiges d’arbres.
Brief stop at Lagoa Funda. It’s the only volcanic lake on the island where remnants of trees can be seen.

De retour à Faja Grande, la marée est haute, mais les vagues ne sont pas assez puissantes à mon goût.
Back in Faja Grande, the tide is high, but the waves aren't powerful enough for my liking.
